The Reason Charles Was Wrong

As I am sure many of you have heard, Charles Barkley wants to be the governor of Alabama in the year 2014. As I am also sure many of you have heard, Charles decided the best way to get into the proverbial pool of politics is to do a belly buster off the high dive. Mr. Barkley, who was at one time a card carrying conservative, revealed his feelings towards his deserted political party in an interview with Wolf Blitzer (link to interview here). To summarize, Charles basically believes that all conservatives are “fake christians”, who want to be “judge and jury” when it comes to issues of morality, and more importantly when it comes to people’s lives. The status of MMA, and why Dana White and Zuffa are holding it back

I feel it is time that the Hook and Lateral jumped into the MMA world with its sports blogging. Thus, I hereby declare myself the resident MMA “expert” of the Hook and Lateral. I hear some of you asking, “But Grundlbunny, what is MMA? Don’t you mean UFC?”. “No”, I answer smugly, “I mean MMA you silly noob” (noob is cool blogger lingo for someone who is inferior in knowledge about the subject on which I am blogging). The UFC is not a sport. MMA is a sport with a rich history. The UFC is a promoter of MMA, much like the NFL is the promoter of Football and the NBA is a promoter of Basketball. The difference between the UFC and these better known promoters like the NFL and the NBA is the perceived legitimacy of the sports that they promote in the eyes of your average sports fan. There is no question that MMA has not yet earned its legitimacy as a sport in the public eye as a whole. However, the UFC has fought hard in the past to bring the sport into the realm of popular sports, and came pretty close to achieving its goal about two years ago. They started getting coverage on ESPN (albeit brief) and record PPV buys, and consequently the question of the legitimacy of the sport started leaning towards the positive side for the UFC. But recently the UFC has found itself under fire for its business practices, more specifically for its treatment of its fighters and other fighters it tries to bring into its promotion. This problem has halted the progress of MMA as a sport, and in my opinion Dana White and Zuffa (owners of the UFC) are to blame. Read the rest of this entry »
