Tyson v. Holyfield Rematch?

Posted by The Danza on Feb 28, 2008

After saying a few times that he would never fight Mike Tyson again, Evander Holyfield admits that he has been in talks with Tyson’s new trainer, Jeff Fenech, about a rematch of their 1997 bout in which the incident to the left occurred. From what I hear, all hell pretty much broke loose in Vegas after that event occurred including guns being fired inside casinos and tables overturned with $500/1000 chips scattering. Is the world ready to see Mike Tyson fight somebody “seriously” again? I guess we will soon know, “if the price is right.”

Rog’s Wife and Jose’s Wife Compared Breast Implants at Party in Question

Posted by The Danza on Feb 27, 2008

This story just gets better each day. Not only was Roger Clemens at the party at Jose Canseco’s house in which he was supposedly introduced to steroids for the first time (the one he said under oath he was never at), but apparently, Clemens’ and Canseco’s wives compared breast augmentations after Jose was bragging about how great his wife’s went. I’m not sure why Clemens thought he could get away with claiming he was never at the party when he supposedly told that story repeatedly to players in the clubhouse for years after it occurred. Also, there is more evidence for the perjury investigation from a boy that was 11 at the time and at Jose’s party and just so happened to be taking random pictures with his baseball heroes. Why was an 11-yr old boy at Canseco’s party anyway? A young Rick Ankiel, perhaps?

Reggie Bush Still Refuses to be Held Accountable, Skips Deposition

Posted by The Danza on Feb 26, 2008

What do you do when you have to give a sworn deposition that will be handed over to the NCAA upon completion by lawyers who are going to be far from lenient in their questioning? You do what every young, immature, unaccountable person would do. Say “screw it” and don’t go. At least, that’s what Reggie Bush did yesterday. That’s something only a guil……wait a second, was that article from ESPN?!?! It was, and it made it all the way to the front page of the college football section, #2 on the list, while it still did not make it to the headlines of ESPN’s main page. I guess they assumed that not a lot of people check out the college football section this far out of season, so they could appease fearsome, ferocious bloggers like myself (*sarcasm*) by actually acknowledging Bush’s wrongdoing in a public forum. Week 2, Predicting the Razorbacks

Posted by The Chosen Blogger on Feb 24, 2008

If I were to assign a unique “theme” to each and every SEC team this season, then I would probably have the easiest time determining which “theme” to assign the Arkansas Razorbacks…replacement…The Razorbacks are doing a whole lot of replacing this year….a lot of BIG TIME replacing if you want to get right down to the core of it. A whole lot of well publicized, consequential, meaningful replacing that most everyone has heard about.

First of all, they replace (oftentimes more than once) a coaching staff. Houston Nutt, the successful if not at times unstable head coach is replaced by former Falcons part-time-interim Head Coach Bobby Petrino. There was also a two time shakeup at the Defensive Coordinator position as 49ers assistant Willy Robinson came in after Ellis Johnson bolted quickly for South Carolina. Calling All Wisconsin Men, Wanna Move to Miami?

Posted by The Danza on Feb 24, 2008

The Florida Marlins are recruiting fat guys for an “all-male, plus-size” cheerleader squad. The best part? They’re calling them the Manatees. Unfortunately, the Marlins’ season overlaps with the beginning of Packers’ season, so that takes out of play the largest niche of candidates for the troup.

Rog and Deb Partied With Canseco

Posted by The Danza on Feb 23, 2008

According to an ESPN report, there is now evidence that Roger Clemens actually was at the party at Jose Canseco’s house that was an important point during the Congressional Hearing that Clemens was a part of. Originally and under sworn testimony, Clemens said that he was not in attendance at this party. If it proves that he lied under oath to Congress about this, the Feds could pursue perjury charges, which is exactly why they were waiting like vultures in the courtroom when the original testimony was conducted. I never had reason to believe Clemens in the first place when he denied steroid use. Maybe that’s because we have been tempered to assume that everyone used steroids at some point during that era in baseball. To be honest with you, I blame MLB more than I do the players for that. They were desperate for loyalism after the strike destroyed what loyalists they previously had.

What Is It With College Football Players and Armed Robbery These Days?

Posted by The Danza on Feb 22, 2008

Less than a week after Alabama redshirt freshman defensive lineman Jeremy Elder was arrested for first-degree robbery (armed), another college football player, this time from the Louisville Cardinals, has been arrested for armed robbery. Senior cornerback Rod Council of the Cardinals allegedly robbed a store clerk at gunpoint with a 9mm Uzi. An Uzi!?!?!?! What the hell?!? I don’t know much about guns, but I assume that, in a store with only one person, a regular 9mm pistol would probably get the job done if the clerk had tried to be a hero. What a moron. With Leather has recreated what is believed to be an accurate visual representation of what the robbery may have looked like. It appears that all the guy wanted was a Butterfinger.

The Reason Charles Was Wrong

Posted by Grundlbunny on Feb 20, 2008

As I am sure many of you have heard, Charles Barkley wants to be the governor of Alabama in the year 2014. As I am also sure many of you have heard, Charles decided the best way to get into the proverbial pool of politics is to do a belly buster off the high dive. Mr. Barkley, who was at one time a card carrying conservative, revealed his feelings towards his deserted political party in an interview with Wolf Blitzer (link to interview here). To summarize, Charles basically believes that all conservatives are “fake christians”, who want to be “judge and jury” when it comes to issues of morality, and more importantly when it comes to people’s lives. He deems this kind of behavior “hypocritical” and despicable. Read the rest of this entry »

The status of MMA, and why Dana White and Zuffa are holding it back

Posted by Grundlbunny on Feb 18, 2008

I feel it is time that the Hook and Lateral jumped into the MMA world with its sports blogging. Thus, I hereby declare myself the resident MMA “expert” of the Hook and Lateral. I hear some of you asking, “But Grundlbunny, what is MMA? Don’t you mean UFC?”. “No”, I answer smugly, “I mean MMA you silly noob” (noob is cool blogger lingo for someone who is inferior in knowledge about the subject on which I am blogging). The UFC is not a sport. MMA is a sport with a rich history. The UFC is a promoter of MMA, much like the NFL is the promoter of Football and the NBA is a promoter of Basketball. The difference between the UFC and these better known promoters like the NFL and the NBA is the perceived legitimacy of the sports that they promote in the eyes of your average sports fan. There is no question that MMA has not yet earned its legitimacy as a sport in the public eye as a whole. However, the UFC has fought hard in the past to bring the sport into the realm of popular sports, and came pretty close to achieving its goal about two years ago. They started getting coverage on ESPN (albeit brief) and record PPV buys, and consequently the question of the legitimacy of the sport started leaning towards the positive side for the UFC. But recently the UFC has found itself under fire for its business practices, more specifically for its treatment of its fighters and other fighters it tries to bring into its promotion. This problem has halted the progress of MMA as a sport, and in my opinion Dana White and Zuffa (owners of the UFC) are to blame. Read the rest of this entry »

Alabama Crimson Tide Update…

Posted by The Chosen Blogger on Feb 18, 2008

Due to a recent situation concerning the status of LSU’s Quarterback Heir Apparent Ryan Perrilloux, I have been forced to amend my score prediction for the Alabama/ LSU game. Here is what I had written…

LSU, 11/8/07, Baton Rouge: The Bengal Tigers lose about 10 starters from this year’s top ranked team. While LSU will have talent at each position, that talent will no longer be able to cover up Les Miles’ simply idiotic coaching. LSU will continue to be undisciplined and will make too many mistakes. Look for Alabama to take back Baton Rogue and win their second in November…Bama 27-17.

Here is my updated prediction.

LSU, 11/8/07, Baton Rouge: The Bengal Tigers lose about 10 senior starters from this year’s top ranked team. Along with these massive losses, LSU’’s relatively experienced and very talented Quarterback Ryan Perrilloux is, for all intents and purposes, off the team. While LSU will have talent at each position, that talent will no longer be able to cover up Les Miles’ simply idiotic coaching. LSU will continue to be undisciplined and will make too many mistakes. The loss of their experienced quarterback should only seal the deal more for the Crimson Tide. Look for Alabama to take back Baton Rogue and win their second in November…Bama 27-7.
