Friday Rumors/News Wrap-Up: Tuberville, Saban, Etc.
Posted by The Danza on Nov 30, 2007
Tommy Tuberville - Auburn has formally made their move and offered Tuberville a two-year contract extension with salary adjustments. He will now made $2.8 million in 2008 with his salary increasing $200,000 each year through the end of the contact in 2013. He now has one week to accept the financial terms of the deal. This gives him just enough time to milk more money out of Arkansas and then for the LSU job to officially open up and leave Arkansas and Auburn in the dust.
Nick Saban - Did anybody actually believe that LSU’s coaching spot would potentially open up and Nick Saban would NOT be mentioned as a possible replacement? Reportedly, Saban flew into a Baton Rouge airport on Wednesday, where he was then escorted to an “undisclosed location” by the state police. While this seems damning, LSU’s AD denied having spoken with or wishing to speak to Coach Saban. Read the rest of this entry »
More Quackery with Tubby…
Posted by The Chosen Blogger on Nov 29, 2007

I am starting to hear from some people I trust that Tuberville to Arkansas may be more of a reality than I thought last night. I am still sticking with the belief that any rumors that are out there have a lot more to do with leverage than with an actual coaching change on the Plains. Nonetheless, I am keeping my ears open this evening and will update the site if I hear anything at all.
STAY TUNED…
Update 1 (5:5opm): This report just surfaced on hawgsports.com, Arkansas’ Rivals.com website. It confirms a good bit of what I’ve been hearing about the Tuberville situation.

Update 2 (7:35pm): An Arkansas T.V. station is now reporting along with another sports website that multiple sources are indicating that Tommy Tuberville will be the next head coach at Arkansas. Indeed, rumors are heating up very quickly about this…but stranger things have happened…especially when Jimmy Sexton is involved. As always, don’t touch that dial…

Update 3 (8:35pm): I should begin trusting my instinct more often. I am now hearing what I first believed, namely that the above-linked news outlets are small time media who may have jumped the gun just in case Tuberville actually DID go to Arkansas. Rumors are still out there and there is definitely some truth to what is occurring. There are deals being worked out, but they are far from done. Don’t go too far…
Thursday Mid-Day News: Major Applewhite Contacted By Houston Cougars
Posted by The Danza on Nov 29, 2007
Major Applewhite, offensive coordinator for The University of Alabama, has been contacted by Houston in regards to the possibility of him replacing Briles, who left for Baylor, as the next head coach of the Cougars.
In my opinion, this would be a great opportunity for a 29-yr old, who would be coaching in a state where the people love him, after his stint as an offensive coordinator at Rice and, of course, his career at Texas as QB. Having said that, I’m not completely sure he is prepared to be the top dog at 29 years of age. If Houston offers him the job, however, look for him to accept the position as an opportunity like this, a head coaching job in your home state at his age, does not come around very often.
**UPDATE 3:50 ET, Nov 30** Star Jackson, Alabama’s top commited QB recruit in the ‘08 class, spoke with Coach Applewhite, and Jackson had this to say:
“He’s not leaving. He’s going to stick there. The only way he’s leaving is if he gets fired.”

In Case Anyone Is Interested In a Job…
Posted by The Chosen Blogger on Nov 29, 2007
The University of Michigan is openly posting their most recent job opening.
All you need is a Bachelors Degree degree (although they prefer a Graduate degree as well.) The pay should be pretty nice and only requires 40 hours a week!
So if anyone is interested in starting a new career…give this one a look. It doesn’t look like the competition should be too stiff as of now…

Jimmy V Week and Speech
Posted by The Late Spider Moltisanti on Nov 29, 2007
Time for a change from college football coaches
This week, ESPN is partaking in its annual fund raiser for the Jimmy V Foundation. If you have some free time, please watch the video of Jimmy V’s speech at the ‘93 ESPY’s that I have posted below (what else are you gonna do but waste another 15 minutes on the internet or go check out a message board to see the latest absurd rumors?). I’m not telling anyone that they should donate, but if you watch this video and don’t at least feel like donating, then you are a damn liar. You also probably like raping babies and killing little kittens, but hey, it’s your choice. One of the ten best speeches you will hear.
**Note: If anyone is interested in donating to the Jimmy V Foundation, the information can be found here.
Do they REALLY want this guy?
Posted by The Chosen Blogger on Nov 28, 2007
So now ESPN is reporting that Michigan AD Bill Martin has requested permission to talk with Les Miles about their vacant head coaching position. Why…for the love of God why would they want this joker of a coach to head up such a storied football program!
The following You-Tube video expresses the source of my dismay much better than any words I could come up with…
Michigan…you guys can do better. At LSU, the talent left by Nick Saban won in spite of Miles’ questionable coaching. Furthermore, the guy can’t keep his dang mouth shut (”undefeated in regulation?“) and is generally prone to making an idiot out of himself.
So go ahead and do some more due diligence Michigan - for the sake of your program…
Very Interesting……
Posted by The Chosen Blogger on Nov 28, 2007

Tommy Tuberville did not meet today with Auburn President Jay Jacobs to hammer out some outstanding issues with his contract. Tuberville is reported to be out of his office.
This could get real interesting real fast. My first impulse is that the Riverboat Gambler is milking the Arkansas opening for all it’s worth. On the other hand, though, I can’t shake the image of the Tyson family carrying Ears Tuberville out of Auburn in a pine-box - either way, ‘ol Tubby’s a shrewd guy and will come out of this a much richer and more secure man….as if he needs something else to smirk about…
STAY TUNED!

Update 1 (6:40pm): Ok…Let me preface this by saying that Tommy Tuberville is from Arkansas and is known to be quite the duck-hunter. I still find it interesting that, in the midst of a high profile contract negotiation that is leaving hordes of Auburn fans hanging on the edge of their seats, Coach Ears has decided to go on a duck hunting trip in Arkansas. Now, to be fair, this is apparently an annual thing for Tubby, but it must be nice to be able to put an unsigned contract negotiation on the table in order to go on a trip to a state whose football team is looking for a coach. I still believe this is all about leverage, but it is very entertaining nonetheless.

Update 2 (10:15pm): So I have been doing some heavy duty research and have found out that Arkansas is kind of the Duck Hunting Capital of the United States. There are so many duck in Arkansas, they have to vacuum the Ozarks to free the people from excess goose droppings. Hunting clubs such as the Pluck-A-Duck Duck and Goose Lodge (Where Memories are Made) provide an all-inclusive duck hunting experience.
Oh well…guess Tubby isn’t going to be the Arkansas Head Coach after all!

Tuesday Rumors and News Summary: Busy Day in the College Football World
Posted by The Danza on Nov 28, 2007
Les Miles and LSU - LSU is undefeated this year…….in regulation. Miles believes this should be considered when determining rankings. He even goes as far as to suggest that, maybe two ties after regulation should equal only one loss instead of two eventual losses. Hear his press conference here in the audio bar after the first paragraph. A little bit past halfway through the presser is when Miles discusses the “ties” his team has had this year and essentially bashes the college overtime system. One thing for Miles to consider: do you not think that Kentucky and Arkansas would have played LSU differently before the end of regulation had there been no overtime? Many teams play for overtime now, so you can’t automatically classify these games as “ties” in the old system. Read the rest of this entry »
